Wendy Benson

I grew up having the opportunity to travel to many different places and I loved seeing different cultures and people. As I got older, I started noticing what people would wear everyday. I started to appreciate how everyone can have their own personal style that shows a part of who they are. Finally, in high school, I realized that I wanted to be involved in the fashion industry in some way.

Through studying fashion merchandising at VCU, my passion for fashion has only grown. A few of my favorite classes have been retail buying simulation, computers for fashion, event planning, and fashion forecasting. I find that I really love the classes that include a project or assignments that emanate a “real world” experience. I’m so glad to have the opportunity to take classes about careers that I am interested in. I would like to become an event planner or a buyer within the fashion industry.

Retail Industry

Working a retail job for the past two years has taught me so much about the fashion industry. Specifically the resale/thrift world. Being able to work with others and communicate are essential skills needed to do my job, and any job well.
