What was the ask?

Write an analysis of any collection of your choosing. Research the background of the show and explore different themes and motifs for better understanding.

THe Process

For this assignment, I chose to analyze the Miu Miu 2022 Spring/Summer Collection. When I first started attending VCU, I became more interested in high fashion brands. Prada and Miu Miu were always my favorite designs to admire. I especially loved this collection because of the mixture of feminine and exposing characteristics with corporate office wear.

research

I had to start my research by looking into the background of Miu Miu and Prada to fully understand where they come from. Next, I looked into all of the details of the show including where it was located, the music played, the lighting, etc. When I found core ideas behind this collection, I expanded upon them while diving into four specific looks from the show as examples.

analysis findings:

reflection of a post-covid world

  • In 2021, businesses had to start deciding to bring their employees back to the office or to keep them working from home. The looks from this show raise the question of what else we can do with corporate work wear. Can the limit of appropriateness change with the times?

  • With all of the protests and politics during 2020, the world has become more aware and in need of uniqueness. This show pulls from those feelings by playing with the juxtaposition of traditional workplace wear and more progressive, exposing elements.

  • These exposing elements are also a nod toward global warming and our unpredictable weather. The micro mini-skirts and extra short cropped tops ask if we should be preparing for hot days with our office wardrobe.

REFLECTION

REFLECTION

I throughly enjoyed researching and better understanding this collection. It’s pretty obvious that fashion in of interest to me so looking into all of these beautifully made garments and the inspiration behind them is extremely fascinating.
